Coming Up With Blog Topics

The most important consideration when coming up with blog topics is to offer something of value to the reader. Some people just wanted to be entertained whereas others want to learn something. As a writer, you have the ability to satisfy at least one of those criteria but preferably both. So, what should you blog about? It needs to be something you know more about that the average person; a level of expertise is a definite plus. It also needs to be something you are passionate about and have a burning desire to share. Look to your work, hobbies, and interests to decide on a topic for your blog. Don’t waste your time or anyone else’s on a blog that doesn’t offer something useful.

As you go about your daily life, ideas for your blog will pop into your head. Make sure you jot them down as soon as you think of them instead of letting the ideas flutter away. Blog posts don’t have to be long - a couple hundred words and even less can be more than enough under the right circumstances.

Most people fill their blogs with their own words and opinions. But in the event you want to share someone else’s work on your blog, get their permission and/or attribute it properly. You don't want to be charged with copyright infringement.

(Sidenote:
If you’re not looking to blog for yourself, organizations and companies often pay freelance writers to blog for them. These jobs can be lucrative but are often monotonous. A little knowledge about how SEO (search engine optimization) works is ideal for such a job. Scour writing work websites and job listings if you’re interested in a paid blogging position.)
